ARCOD India Literacy Project

The ARCOD India Literacy Project, launched in October 2013, aims to improve educational outcomes for linguistic minorities in the multilingual Hosur Educational Division of Krishnagiri District, where Telugu and Kannada are widely spoken. Initially implemented in the Thally, Kelamangalam, and Soolagiri Blocks, the project expanded to cover Hosur, Shoolagiri, and Veppanapalli Blocks in the 2023-24 academic year. This initiative, supported by India Literacy Project, USA, focuses on addressing the unique educational needs of children in these regions.

Coverage and Impact

The project began with outreach to 20 villages in the Thally and Kelamangalam blocks. In 2015-16, it expanded to an additional 40 villages, and by 2019-20, it included all schools in Thally and Kelamangalam, along with five selected schools in Shoolagiri. This coverage included 75 Anganwadis and 150 schools. By the 2022-23 academic year, the project benefited 19,820 students, reaching a total of 1,22,486 students since its inception.
